NOC Engineer Tier 3

Main focus of the role:

The ideal candidate will be ready to undertake a role within a 24 x 7 NOC environment. The T3 NOC Engineer should have solid experience and understanding of networking technologies and have discipline to follow the required support processes and procedures. A genuine can-do attitude is required and the ability to deal under pressure with demanding clients. The aim is to provide world class support to our client base with exceptional quality required at all times. There will be extensive learning on the job opportunities and candidates should demonstrate an interest to further enhance technical skills and certifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support of the Company’s Network Operation Centre, incorporating fault diagnostics and resolution, and provisioning for IP routing, switching, MPLS VPN, firewall services, & load balancing in a leased line, Hosting and Managed Service environment.
  • Fault rectification and management of Customer networking solutions, including switching, routing, firewalls and load balancing for Ethernet, X21 and G703 presented circuits working to maintain SLA’s
  • Network monitoring of all access, hosting, managed and core networks using Network Management Systems and SNMP based monitoring systems.
  • Providing out of hours cover for the Technical Support desk.
  • Working closely with Support, OSS, Field Engineering Data Center and Provisioning teams to ensure the best possible service is provided to customers. Managing escalations between teams in line with company policies.
  • Implementation of change requests for existing and new customer solutions on both allvotec and customer networks, ensuring appropriate documentation is updated and ITIL practices are followed.
  • Working with Vendor TAC to resolve hardware and software issues.
  • Perform as part of a shift cycle incorporating 24/7, 365 days a year.
  • Liaise with service providers ensuring third party/supplier faults are cleared in a controlled and timely manner.
  • Proactive resolution of problems likely to cause future support issues, e.g. intermittent flapping and process design.
  • Administrate and notify as necessary third party Telco Planned Maintenance activities.
  • Use of company ticketing system, and other support systems to maintain accurate records to ITIL standards.
  • Assist with the creation and maintenance of processes and documentation of diagnostic workflows for common faults and change requests.
  • Other functions as requested via the team’s management line.

Job Requirements:

  • CCNP Routing and Switching qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive data communications understanding and experience in operational environment equivalent to 3rd line faults desk.
  • Experienced in applying basic and detailed change requests to live Customer solutions.
  • Previous experience working with Cisco hardware (Cisco Nexus and Catalyst) and software troubleshooting with switching, routing, firewall platforms.
  • Ability to implement and troubleshooting IP, MPLS, BGP, OSPF, G703 & X21, DSL, IPSec, PPP/L2TP, STP and WAN technologies including Ethernet, xDSL, Leased Lines and LES.
  • Experience in operating Network Management Systems and SNMP based monitoring systems.
  • Previous experience working in a NOC / Service Provider / ISP / Telco-Carrier operational environment.
  • Experience with ITIL processes for Incident, Problem, and Change management.
  • Good understanding of layer 2 switching and layer 3 routing.
