QC Inspector - Painting/Coating

QC Inspector - Painting/Coating shall demonstrate a thorough working knowledge and proven ability of all phases and types of coating applications and methods and recognised Construction industry standards.

Primary Duties

1. Executes the specific inspections on materials, equipment and construction/installation activities on site in accordance with the ITP (Inspection and Test Plan).
2. Maintains control of storage and certification of consumables. Ensure that material is stored and handled in accordance with manufacturer’s requirements and data sheets are available, when required, material traceability is maintained and correct material used.
3. Reviews the applicable paint system compatibility.
4. Reviews of method statements of painting application.
5. Initiates the qualification of the Sand Blasters/Painters for Client’s approval.
6. Performs qualifications of coating processes.
7. Ensures the readiness of the QA/QC requirements are met before start of painting/coating application.
8. Ensures ambient conditions (Air Temperature, Dew Point, Relative Humidity, etc.) are acceptable for required process output.
9. Monitors performance of contractors, ensure Applicators are competent and where required have valid certification for the process in use, equipment is in serviceable condition.
10. Responsible for timely inspection during fabrication and construction, proactive in the prevention of non-compliance and problem resolution.
11. Ensures the calibration/validation of Sand Blasting/Painting Equipment's, tools etc.
12. Ensures blast medium and coating materials conform to project specifications.
13. Ensures surface preparation blast profile/cleanliness meet requirements.
14. Monitors wet film thickness during application and application technique.
15. Monitors dry film thickness and recoating intervals.
16. Inspects WFT, DTF by using the relevant inspection tools.
17. Monitors observations of the correct coding cycles.
18. Verifies the correct colour-coding and painting.
19. Performs visuals inspections.
20. Performs adhesion testing.
21. Performs penetration testing.
22. Evaluates impact testing.
23. Performs visual checks after blasting.
24. Performs Holiday Testing inspection of buried pipelines.
Ensure any identification marks or tags removed or over coated are replaced.
25. Prepares daily reports on the work in progress including inspections reports, internal NCR's etc.
26. Issues the relevant Quality Records and, when necessary, write and send to Quality Control Supervisor non-conformances reports.
27. Carries out any other duties as and when required by the supervisor.

Experience of the following:
• Painting and Coating Specifications
• Flaw/discontinuity identification and Classification
• Blasting and Surface Parameters
• Painting techniques
• Coating repair systems

Minimum Requirements

• Engineering Diploma/Degree
• NACE (National Association of Corrosion Engineers) level II or ICOR (Institute of Corrosion) level II. Or BGAS British Gas – CSWIP level 2 / FROSIO accreditation.
• Minimum 05 (five) years inspection experience as Painting/Coating in the contract scope of work (Oil, Gas, petrochemical projects).
• Experience in pipeline construction would be an advantage.
