Security Technical Manager

Role Summary:

The Security Technical Manager is responsible for supporting the security requirements of our most prestigious customers in the GTT Advanced Solutions team. This includes the design process, helping the sales and professional services teams in identifying customer requirements, and educating customers on enterprise security services, solutions and technologies, and during operations to ensure that all the customer’s requirements are properly handled by our operations teams.

The Security Technical Manager is responsible for attending customer meetings, assessing customer’s requirements, determining and designing appropriate solutions, costing the solutions, evangelizing those solutions, helping in the qualification and successful closing of opportunities, and working in partnership with sales executives. He or she will also supervise active security solutions and will be the customer’s security design and operations authority.

The Security Technical Manager will work on multiple client accounts and must have the ability to develop and present secure solutions to leadership and technical teams. In addition, the Security Technical Manager will be required to lead and assess risks imposed by technical solutions and advise clients of security standards, best practice and solutions to address any risk. The individual will be required to contribute technical responses to RFI and RFPs and to assist customers with security audits.

The Security TM works closely with the other members of the Service Management team, the Sales team, and the Central Operations teams to ensure all aspects of the technical solution are securely implemented and supported.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Ownership of security of customer solution from end to end
  • Help Sales sell new solutions or components of solutions
  • Ensure clear documentation for the customer solutions is maintained
  • Ensure that central operations teams have proper documentation and training on the customer solutions
  • Assist the project manager in delivering new customer solutions or components of solutions
  • Provide information for Capacity Management to the Account Manager, Service Manager, and customer
  • Support the central operations teams with Incident Management and Change Management when needed
  • Act as security technical escalation for the central incident management team
  • Attend regular customer service management meetings
  • Organize technical meetings with internal teams and the customer when necessary
  • Facilitate and manage customers’ audits – i.e. PCI-DSS, SOC 1 and 2, etc.
  • Provide oversight and support of security tools such as SIEM and network IPS.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Ability to identify significant information security risks, execute design and implementation of strategies and programs to prevent or reduce the loss of organizational assets.
  • Provide guidance on cloud security (AWS, Azure, hybrid and private cloud)
  • Manage the response process for security alerts, event triage and remediation of security incidents.
  • Manage the risk analysis process to identify, contain and remediate sophisticated threats.
  • Perform security reviews of projects and proposed technology implementations to identify risks and recommend improvements.
  • Prepare and review security activity reports and metrics as requested by management.
  • Develop close working relationships with management, company peers, and industry counterparts to ensure alignment of company goals with current information security industry and regulatory trends.

Essential Criteria:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a computing-related course of study with high academic performance. Master’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of Information Technology experience, including 5 or more years of information security experience required.
  • Well versed in information security concepts (e.g. defense in depth, separation of duties, control environments, malicious software, security awareness etc.).
  • Working knowledge of IT technologies (for example, operating systems, network protocols, information security management systems etc.)
  • Working knowledge of information security technologies (e.g. firewalls, proxy servers, IP/load balancers, wireless networks, VPN and cloud)
  • Working experience with security monitoring solutions (e.g. IPS, NAC, DLP, SIEM etc.)
  • Strong working experience in intrusion monitoring and incident
  • Experience in role based application and infrastructure security (e.g. Active Directory / Identity Management / LDAP etc.)
  • Strong demonstrated knowledge of industry best practices in regard to network security (e.g. NIST, SANS, NSA etc.)
  • Working knowledge of various regulatory and broad security best practice standards and guidelines (e.g. ISO 27002, PCI, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience with technology and methodologies standard to network engineering and IT security
  • Proficient at multitasking and prioritizing in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in written forms in a professional manner.
  • Ability to plan and organize work schedule for self.
  • Ability to work as both a team member and leader, meet team schedules, and contribute to the tea's goals and objectives.
  • Provide assistance to technical and management personnel as required.
  • Actively participate in meetings and provide constructive input.
  • Facilitate when requested, meetings, establish agendas, and document follow-up actions as needed.
  • Experienced with key security industry suppliers: Checkpoint, SourceFire, F5, Cisco, IBM, Palo Alto, Tufin
  • Experience working in a global (multinational) environment is required
  • Professional Certifications CISSP, CISA, CISM…or applicable technical certifications a plus.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Scripting/programming experience desirable (bash, PowerShell, python)
  • Advanced Security (Penetration testing, server hardening, vulnerability management)
  • Security Standards (PCI DSS)
  • Preferred experience with PRINCE2 or similar project management methodology
  • ITILv3 foundation or higher certification

Other Similar Job Functions:

It is expected that a Security Technical manager would be a role that is the result of progression from a Security Engineer or Security Solutions Consultant that moves up to become a Security Technical Manager. After several years in the Security Technical Manager role, the next progression would be a Security Architect, Security Product manager, or Security Account Manager.


4-year university degree or equivalent desired


Occasional travel in Europe will be required, approximately 1 trip per quarter. No out of business hours work is expected.
